It seems to be the season for German owned and Gard P&I entered vessels to collide with Chittagong port jetties! This morning the container feeder vessel MV Francoise Gilot (IMO no. 9295517) made contact with NCT Jetty 2 causing some damage to the jetty. Again this evening another container vessel MV Mount Bokor damaged NCT Jetty 1. Surprisingly both vessels are entered with Gard Norway, are managed by companies based in Hamburg, Germany and are flagged with Antigua and Barbuda.
There have been a number of accidents in Chittagong port when berthing or un-berthing with a pilot on board. This really raised the question of pilot quality in Chittagong and overall harbour management. Shipowners should be aware as port is recently making large claims for damage to jetties.
