OUR HISTORY
For the leading survey firm in the region that it is today, Henderson Bangladesh had a modest start. Although Henderson Bangladesh officially was set up in 2009, in fact it is the continuation of Henderson International Group services in Bangladesh which commenced in 1998.
In 1998 Henderson International (BD) Ltd was set up by Capt Ahmed Ruhullah and late Mr William Henderson, the founder of the Henderson International Group. The company made an immediate impression in the marine sector and became the preferred survey and inspection firm in Bangladesh. In 2001 Capt Ruhullah moved temporarily to Australia to take up a teaching position with the Australian Maritime College in Tasmania. The company was left under the management of a local director entrusted in good faith to look after the company in Capt Ruhullah’s absence.
In 2008 Capt Ruhullah returned to Bangladesh and in 2009 decided to resign from the company after consultation with Mr William Henderson. Mr William Henderson also resigned from the company subsequently and asked that a new company be set up in the name of Henderson Marine Bangladesh Ltd to continue providing services to Henderson Group clients. These corporate decisions were prompted by management issues related to Henderson International (BD) Ltd and dubious ethical standard of the remaining director of that company who had refused to resign from the company.
Since 2010 Henderson Marine Bangladesh Ltd is representing the Henderson International Group as the Bangladesh based affiliated company, serving all existing and new clients with professionalism and integrity. Since then, the company has acted with professionalism and ethics in over 300 jobs assigned by P&I Clubs, H&M underwriters, cargo underwriters, shipowners, charterers, average agents, claim settlement agents from across the globe.
The renegade company named Henderson International (BD) Ltd remains a company in the margin, operating under unclear legal and operational frameworks and is in no way connected with the Henderson International Group. A legal notice to this affect can be provided on request.
In 2011 Henderson Bangladesh set up a representative office, Henderson Survey and Inspection Myanmar Ltd, in Yangon that became operational in 2012 as sanctions on Myanmar were lifted by various governments. The same year, Henderson Myanmar became the average agent of CESAM and VHT, thus offering its expertise to underwriters in an emerging market where skills are yet to be developed.
